PLAC/CVI proudly presented a live Zoom educational session, “Gene Editing to Treat Hyperlipidemia and to Prevent Coronary Heart Disease,” on Tuesday, August 4th. The featured speaker was Dr. Kiran Musunuru, Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Musunuru’s laboratory is using a new technology called “gene editing” to modify genes in the liver to permanently reduce a person’s cholesterol levels and protect against heart attack and stroke with a single shot whose effects would last for a lifetime. If it works well, it could be offered to the general population as a “vaccination.”
